Miniature Houses Make Big Impact
Hackney-based carpenter Sean Browne caused a stir in Hoxton cafe by building a house inside a café. Customers of Summer with Monica were treated to a display of craftsmanship over a cuppa as they watched a mid-terrace Victorian House constructed in less than hour. Sean said: “I think people were a bit surprised when I starting putting together. It was brilliant to see people so interested in the house.”Originally constructed as a learning aid for surveyors, Sean is no stranger to public construction. He worked as a stonemason in the houses of parliament, Richard Branson’s private home and even MI5. He has grand plans for Hackney, with his next project working with schools and nurseries. He said: “I’ve been building mud kitchens and the kids absolutely love it. They get to play with water and mud with their friends and they spend hours in the kitchen with their imaginations running riot.”Sean’s handiwork will be on display at the Hackney Learning Trust childminder’s conference in February next year. For more information visit:

Sean showed us the most incredible, detailed model that explains how houses are built. It comes apart in pieces so you can really understand the structure, see how the walls are made, how the pipes run and much more. Sean is also very knowledgeable about how it all works and he can explain every aspect in detail - both how things are made and the common problems that can come up in different parts of the house.Jake Gaber Customer
